A school conceived as a pavilion in the park.

Conceived as a pavilion within a park, the new Sainte-Foy English Regional High School is set within a mature landscape that the project seeks to preserve and extend. Rather than forming a single monolithic building, the school is divided into two volumes connected through the landscape, creating an open learning environment where architecture, nature, and community life come together.

Located on the site of the former Saint-Vincent School, near the wooded area and Parc Saint-Denys, the new regional school brings together 1,421 students from Quebec High School, St. Patrick’s High School, and Dollard-des-Ormeaux School. Its nearly 20,000 m² program is distributed between two pavilions : one primarily dedicated to academic activities and the other to sports. This organization preserves the site’s main wooded areas and creates an opening between the two volumes that maintains the continuity of the park and public circulation routes through the site. The school thus becomes part of a broader network of green spaces, neighbourhood amenities, and active transportation connections extending beyond the limits of the property.

Inside, 40 classrooms, seven science laboratories, specialized arts spaces, a multipurpose auditorium, and several sports facilities are complemented by a wide range of shared spaces. The atrium, cafeteria, and gathering areas contribute to an open and connected school environment in which collective spaces play a central role in everyday student life. Outdoors, the sports field and immediate proximity to the park extend school activities into the landscape. The sharing of certain facilities with the City further reinforces this community role, allowing the school to remain active beyond class hours as both a place of learning and a new public pavilion within the park.
