Canada Pavilion – Shanghai Expo

As part of the team led by SNC-Lavalin, responsible for the pavilion's design, construction, operation, and eventual dismantling, ABCP delivered the architectural implementation of the project. Located near the Plaza of the Americas, the pavilion was conceived as a powerful visual landmark whose faceted form evokes a timber prism with reflective and verdant surfaces. The architecture faithfully realized Cirque du Soleil's creative concept while meeting demanding international requirements for safety, constructability, and an exceptionally compressed delivery schedule.

The project's ambitious timeline and the challenges of local material sourcing led the design team to develop innovative construction solutions that efficiently translated the original concept into reality. The building envelope reinterpreted a prefabricated panel system, transforming it into a distinctive architectural expression through carefully crafted detailing and materiality. This approach enabled rapid construction while reinforcing the pavilion's unique identity. Recipient of a Wood Design Award for its innovative use of Canadian western red cedar, the project also embraced environmentally responsible strategies through material recycling and the thoughtful selection of construction systems, demonstrating that iconic architecture and sustainable design can successfully coexist.
