A learning street that connects people and spaces.
The expansion of Aventure Elementary School transforms the existing facility into a dynamic learning environment where educational spaces extend far beyond the classroom. Conceived as a natural extension of the original building, the project introduces a variety of stimulating, flexible spaces designed to support evolving teaching methods and enrich students' daily experience.
The project includes the addition of seven classrooms, a multipurpose room, and resource spaces, allowing the school to accommodate approximately one hundred additional students. The site layout was carefully planned to optimize circulation while preserving the quality of the outdoor schoolyard by protecting key areas from prevailing winds and retaining mature trees. A new entrance, located at the junction between the existing building and the addition, consolidates reception functions and clarifies circulation throughout the school. Fully glazed, the multipurpose room serves as a welcoming landmark, showcasing the vibrant life of the school to the surrounding community.
The architectural concept is organized around a "learning street," where circulation areas become active places for teaching, collaboration, and social interaction. South-facing classrooms benefit from abundant natural daylight and open onto flexible learning zones enriched with integrated furniture. A dramatic two-storey glazed façade establishes a strong visual connection with the schoolyard, reinforcing the project's relationship with its landscape. The extensive use of timber, from the structural system to the interior finishes and custom millwork, contributes warmth, quality, and material coherence throughout the building. Together, these elements create a bright, welcoming, and adaptable learning environment that supports both student success and well-being.
