A pioneering school in sustainable design.
As the first LEED Gold-certified elementary school in Québec, Myriade Elementary School places sustainability and student well-being at the heart of its design. Conceived as a true living environment, the school combines environmental performance, architectural quality, and educational excellence within a bright, inspiring setting that is closely connected to its surrounding neighbourhood.
The school accommodates 21 classrooms, including three kindergarten classrooms, a daycare centre, a divisible double gymnasium, a library, and a multipurpose room. Organized over two levels, the building is positioned along de l'Étna road, creating a generous schoolyard while optimizing circulation, access, and student safety. The various building volumes are arranged around a large transparent entrance hall that serves as the school's central gathering space. The building's linear composition follows the curve of the street, contributing to the quality of the surrounding public realm.
The architecture is distinguished by a restrained material palette accented with a vibrant colour signature that animates the façades. Inspired by the graphic language of a barcode, this sequence of colours symbolically accompanies students throughout their educational journey. Abundant natural daylight, healthy building materials, and carefully framed views to the outdoors create welcoming spaces that foster concentration and well-being. The project also integrates numerous sustainable design strategies, including a high-performance building envelope, an air-source heat pump system, optimized natural ventilation, and low-impact construction materials. By combining innovation, exceptional learning environments, and energy performance, Myriade Elementary School has established a benchmark for sustainable school architecture in Québec.
