A vibrant sports showcase open to the city.
A defining feature of the UQAR Lévis Campus, the UQAR Sports Complex establishes a strong, welcoming presence that opens onto the city. Conceived as a place for training, gathering, and social interaction, the facility expands the university's athletic offering while creating inviting spaces for both students and the broader community.
The building includes an oversized multipurpose gymnasium, a multifunctional room, a fitness centre, lounge and dining areas, as well as the locker rooms and support spaces required for its operation. Its layout is organized around a long, fully glazed concourse that serves as the interface between the public realm and the various activity spaces. Clad in wood on both its walls and ceiling, this interior promenade creates a warm gathering place, simplifies wayfinding, and animates the façade as a vibrant showcase of campus life. Located at the entrance to Lévis' emerging business district, the complex was envisioned as a landmark building for the university while incorporating a generous landscaped forecourt that encourages gathering and pedestrian activity.
The architectural concept fosters a dialogue with both its urban context and UQAR's institutional identity, notably through a material palette that reinterprets the character of the university's original Rimouski campus. Distinct building volumes clearly express the different program functions, while carefully controlled natural daylight enhances the quality of the athletic spaces. Particular attention was also given to user comfort through resilient flooring systems, high-performance acoustic treatments, and a highly functional layout. Designed to support the future growth of the campus, the building also incorporates a high degree of adaptability, combining architectural quality, performance, and a strong institutional identity.
