Sylvan Adams Velodrome – Desjardins Multi-Sport Centre

Precisely shaped around the geometry of the cycling track, the building is distinguished by its compact, rounded form, minimizing its footprint while integrating harmoniously into the surrounding natural landscape. A hybrid timber, steel, and concrete roof spans the large structure, creating a bold architectural expression in which the structural system becomes an integral part of the spatial experience. Beneath the expansive glued laminated timber roof, the velodrome is complemented by awide range of athletic facilities, including running lanes, a pump track, acrobatic training areas, multi-purpose gymnasium spaces, and seating for 400 spectators. Peripheral spaces accommodate locker rooms, workshops, offices, and training facilities, forming a cohesive and highly functional sports complex.

Conceived as a true community hub, the centre promotes a diversity of sporting activities, universal accessibility, and inclusion for both elite athletes and the general public. Sustainable design strategies—including the reuse of existing structures, a compact building form, a reflective roofing system, and rainwater harvesting—demonstrate a responsible and innovative approach to design. Recipient of an IOC IAKS Award, the Sylvan Adams Velodrome – Desjardins Multi-Sport Centre has established itself as a leading sports facility that successfully combines high performance, community engagement, and environmental responsibility.
