An intergenerational hub for sport and community.
A defining landmark in the heart of Dieppe, UNIplex Dieppe brings together the sporting, community, and cultural dimensions of civic life. Designed for people of all ages, this bright and versatile facility encourages physical activity, social interaction, and a strong sense of community belonging.
Organized over two levels, the complex combines a sports centre and a community centre connected by a series of flexible shared spaces. Its clear circulation network allows sporting events, community programs, and cultural activities to take place simultaneously. The main arena, with seating for 1,100 spectators, was conceived as a true multipurpose venue capable of hosting both sporting competitions and live performances thanks to integrated stage equipment, a control booth, a loading dock, and removable rink boards. A secondary ice rink supports a variety of activities, including para ice hockey, while the community wing features a multipurpose hall, a multigenerational greenhouse, a community kitchen, and a fitness centre.
The community spaces open generously to the outdoors, allowing abundant natural daylight to reinforce their warm and welcoming character. The architecture draws inspiration from the Petitcodiac River and the tides of the Bay of Fundy: flowing façades echo the river's meandering course, while curved glazing evokes the movement of waves. A light-coloured exterior envelope resting on an earthy brick base gives the building a contemporary yet grounded presence within the urban landscape. As the first phase of a larger civic development, UNIplexDieppe serves as a true beacon for community life and a catalyst for the future growth of the district.
