Description

Located in the historic district of Old Quebec, this exceptional building recently housed, and will continue to house, the Quebec Ministry of Finance. Built in 1887, it was the seat of the Palais de justice de Québec until 1984. The entire building (exterior and interior) has been classified as a heritage site by the governments of Quebec and Canada. The exterior was designed by Eugène-Étienne Taché, while the plans and interiors were by Jean-Baptiste Derome. The building was enlarged in 1927 by Chênevert, Beaulé and Morisette, who overhauled the magnificent interiors. The décor is exceptionally original and refined, with fine stonework, ornate plasterwork, elaborate woodwork, elaborate ceilings and remarkable furniture. All these treasures are currently being protected for the impressive restoration work, which began in winter 2023 and will continue until 2026.

Given the scale of the work required, the building has been vacated by its occupants since 2020. All the envelope and electromechanical components, and consequently the interiors, will be restored and brought up to standard for a new life cycle. The redevelopment of the office spaces will provide an activity-based work environment (ABWE).
