The redevelopment of the Québec Environmental Analysis Expertise Centre brought together the biology, microbiology, chemistry, and inorganic chemistry laboratories within a single area of the Complexe scientifique de Sainte-Foy. Previously dispersed throughout the building, these specialized facilities were consolidated to improve operational efficiency while modernizing the infrastructure within a highly technical research environment.
The project involved the complete demolition of the existing spaces, the construction of new laboratories, and the integration of modular partition and ceiling systems specifically designed for the scientific complex. The new facilities meet the demanding requirements of analytical laboratories through precise environmental control, advanced air pressure management, dedicated metal-free rooms, and infrastructure tailored to accommodate sophisticated scientific equipment. Sustainable design strategies were also incorporated, including the reuse of existing materials, comprehensive recycling measures, and the specification of low-VOC products.
Completed within a fully occupied facility, the project required close coordination to maintain laboratory operations throughout construction while minimizing service interruptions. Careful planning, continuous collaboration among the project team, and an accelerated construction schedule made it possible to relocate sensitive equipment during the year-end shutdown period, ensuring a seamless transition to the new laboratories.
