Located at the entrance to a strategic industrial park in Sherbrooke, the SOPREMA Extruded Polystyrene Manufacturing Plant clearly expresses the company's identity and manufacturing expertise. Conceived as both a high-performance production facility and an architectural statement, the project transforms industrial infrastructure into a contemporary showcase for innovation and technology.
The complex includes 7,840 m² of manufacturing and warehouse space, research laboratories, and administrative offices. The site is carefully organized with loading docks positioned at the rear of the property and parking areas discreetly integrated into the landscape, preserving much of the existing vegetation while promoting the natural restoration of landscaped areas. The building's dynamic composition highlights its various functions through a cantilevered office volume, articulated massing, translucent clerestories, and expansive glazed openings that reveal the automated production processes within. A continuous curtainwall at ground level reinforces the building's sense of lightness while extending the architectural gesture toward the main entrance.
The architecture reflects SOPREMA's values of innovation and performance through a refined and confident architectural language. Carefully selected materials reinforce the building's identity: generous glazing showcases the activity inside, while timber finishes within the administrative areas introduce warmth and a more human scale. Operable façade sections provide natural ventilation for the production spaces, contributing to the building's overall environmental performance. Recipient of awards for both architecture and steel construction, the SOPREMA Extruded Polystyrene Manufacturing Plant stands as a contemporary landmark within the industrial landscape and a compelling expression of modern manufacturing architecture.
