Teaching environments evolving with the future of dental medicine.
The renovation of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at Université Laval thoroughly modernizes its teaching, research, and clinical facilities to support the latest advances in dental education and patient care. Delivered in multiple phases within a fully occupied building, the project successfully combines the integration of cutting-edge technologies with code compliance upgrades while ensuring the uninterrupted operation of university and clinical activities.
The project included the complete renovation of pre-clinical laboratories, simulation suites, classrooms, specialized clinics, and research facilities. The new environments accommodate highly specialized equipment, patient simulators, radiology and sterilization laboratories, and collaborative teaching spaces designed to support evolving educational practices. Custom integrated millwork, developed in close collaboration with the faculty, enhances ergonomics, functionality, and flexibility while creating workstations tailored to contemporary dental education.
The project's complexity stemmed from carrying out extensive renovations within a continuously occupied building where teaching, clinical care, and research activities had to remain fully operational. Careful coordination of construction within highly specialized environments, including Containment Level 2 (CL2) laboratories, the integration of new mechanical and electrical infrastructure, upgrades to life safety systems, and the addition of a new exterior staircase demonstrate the team's technical expertise. The result is a contemporary, high-performance, and adaptable learning environment that meets the demanding standards of university-level dental education.
