Grande Ourse Elementary School

The school accommodates 24 classrooms and offers generous learning environments designed to foster 21st-century skills such as communication, creativity, and innovation. Its layout is organized into two wings oriented toward the landscape, creating an open composition that takes full advantage of spectacular views of the St. Lawrence River. At their intersection, the entrance and common areas form a vibrant central hub where circulation and everyday activities naturally converge. Both spacious and intimate, this flexible gathering space supports a wide variety of activities, from reading and play to arts and crafts and collaborative learning.

The architecture expresses a playful and welcoming identity through crisp white volumes accented with vibrant colours and durable materials such as Témiscouata slate and metal panels. Along the street, the transparent entrance reveals the energy and activity within, while on the park side, a broad exterior staircase follows the site's natural topography and extends the school toward its outdoor play areas. Abundant natural daylight, outdoor classrooms, and informal learning spaces enrich the educational experience, creating a stimulating environment where the school becomes a true place for living, learning, and community.
