Conceived as a true gathering place for the community, Perséides Elementary School blends seamlessly into the residential landscape of Saint-Charles-de-Bellechasse. Inspired by the surrounding urban fabric, its fragmented architectural composition creates a welcoming learning environment where shared spaces play a central role in students' daily lives.
The school accommodates 15 classrooms along with the full range of multipurpose, athletic, and collaborative spaces required for a standalone educational facility. The building is composed of a series of distinct volumes that express its various functions while converging toward a bright central hub. This welcoming space serves as the heart of the school, bringing together the multipurpose room and a large seating staircase that supports daily interaction, educational activities, and community events. A generous semi-open canopy extends these shared spaces outdoors, creating a sheltered area for arrivals, gatherings, and community use.
The building's angled layout responds to the unique geometry of the site while creating an inviting gesture toward the surrounding neighbourhood. The transparent central hub maximizes natural daylight and frames views of the landscape, while a restrained and warm material palette creates a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The double gymnasiumis distinguished by expressive masonry detailing that animates the façades and gives the volume its own architectural identity. Through its clear organization, flexible learning environments, and student-centred design, Perséides Elementary School establishes itself as a new community landmark for the Bellechasse region.
